This is an Indian-made synchronization machine, or "playback machine", for movie production. The filmmakers recorded the music for dance sequences on regular 35mm movie stock. Then this machine played the music back during the filming of dance scenes, while the machine also controlled frame-by-frame synchronization with the camera that filmed the dancers. This electrical link between the playback machine and the camera ensured synchronization between the music and choreography in the final print. A build plate carried the inscription: Made by Sree Venkateswar Engineering Works 3/11 Mount Road Madras 2
