Half Moon Shoulder Plane: I had a vision of this plane almost complete in one moment. The shape filled me with peace, and I intend it to calm the person who looks at it and who uses it. I must have taken inspiration from Japanese tool design and woodworking practices.

I just wanted to thank you for your guidance towards my plan to modify my Skew Block Plane. At the end instead of making my own knob I decided to use the knob of an old block plane and with some minor mods. and the expert drilling into my palm it turned out to be more beautiful and functional than I originally envisioned. Then following yor suggestion I drove to Pacific Fasteners (PF) and the guys there gave me beautiful, perfectly fitting screws and a Cap Iron bolt, so this little thing looks like a Gem. I’d love to send you before-after photos and the shavings it produces but I can’t find a way on this platform. After examining the hardware of my other planes I found some of the bolts bent, and many of their threads damaged, so using that excuse next week I’m goingto gather them them and go back to PF and replace all the bolts I can to brass and new steel. They have identical styles. Now I have a question; you asked me last time if I had experience in working with metal, and I don’t. But, I have a Preston 2500P Router Plane that is incomplete in that it’s missing the blade-locking collar with a thumb screw that drives the blade (cutter) directly against the blade shank itself to clamp it against the body of the tool. I can’t find one anywhere. Not on eBay, not on the Moon, so for now I’d like to make one and wanted to ask you if you had a suggestion. If you search for “Preston 2500P router plane you’ll see examples under “Images”. I can modify Lie-Nielsen blades (square) but that ring / collar with thumb screw is cahllenging to imagine. I even thought of modifying a Stanley No. 71 router plane’s collar. One of these I’ll bring in the thing to show you, maybe you’ll come up with something I haven’t thought of. I am glad that you found what you needed at Pacific Fasteners. I realize that you have sold the plane, but I will put here a suggestion in case someone else needs to replace a missing router plane blade clamp. My idea was to use a bronze groundrod clamp, such as is used in house wiring. I don’t know whether it would be the right size, but it seems the right shape.
